a bulb on the head.

today we had a talk from kevin low.
apperently he is a design architect from gdp.
never knew him..but apperently from what the lecturers said..he is famous in malaysia for his philosophy and idea in design.

the talk was....great!
not like the last speaker (huat lim) i think kevin low realy presented his idea well.
and he has a firm idea and is not afraid of people critisizing him.
his very open minded and says what he really thinks.

there was quite a debate between the lecturers and him.
demo ne..in my opinion..i think what he had saiad was quite true.

he was telling about design with intention of branding.
some architects or firms in malaysia are designing with money and being famous in their head.
and they are actualaly selling their name/brand/icon to the people instead of focusing on the design itself.

for instance..if we look at gehry's design..obviously he is selling his icon.
we can see the same idea being repeated throught the world (in spain, us, ...)
i mean..his design are all the same.
one look at the building and we'll know ita from gehry.
he design each of it without really thinking of the place's climate or culture which could have influence on the building design.

and also..some buildings that eally waste a lot of energy and is really looking out of palce sometimes.
some architects these days tends to look towards technology.
lots of buildings with steels stucture, curtain glass walls and such can be seen.
these buildings are sometimes out of place or tends to be grabbing attention from afar.
but really..airconds are being used in each room and artificial lighting are needed.
this is not really suitable in our country and is a waste of energy.

when asked about his opinion of a good design, kevin low without hesitantion answered with confidence.
and i kinda agree with him
a good design is not merely looking beautiful or being the most hightech building.
but a building what is comfortable, respect the enviroment surrounding it and the culture of the people.
a building should best potray the climate, the people and the enviroment of the place.
thus, every building should have its own design intention.

whoaaaaa..
was i babling?
gomen..i got really inspired.
and was really captivated (huhu) by what he said.

arghh..demo ne...
i still haven't finish my working drawing
and my elevation needs a lot of touch up to do!
ganbatte!!
